H.A.double L.O.double U.double E. N. spells Halloween!

Happy Halloween!
Well, I had hoped for more costume pics (I love to see people in costume!) but what we lacked in quantity we made up in quality!

Here are two adorable girls, do get see what they are? Sugar and a pumpkin cookie...yes, together they are Sugar Cookie! Apparently there is also a matching dad costume which involves a chef hat, rolling pin and giant pumpkin cookie cutter, but he was a little camera shy. Anyway, how cute are these girls??

Here is lovely Donna as Tarzana...doesn't she look ready to take on a lion?

And here is Ella (she takes our sewing classes!) dressed up as the red queen. She did buy the dress, but they made the cape themselves, how impressive is that?

And super cute Mimi (also a sewing class girl) and her sister Lilly as a bobbysoxer and pink dice. I loove the telephone skirt.

And finally, I broke out the clown costume my mom made me probably 15 years ago and I made J dress up as something, so he decided to go as Charlie Brown. This is Charlie Brown when Lucy takes away the football as he goes to kick it.

E did have a cat hat on, but I didn't get a pic of it. I'm happy to post more pics if you want to send them in..I love seeing what people do for Halloween!

Murakami

If you are a lucky duck that is going to Paris anytime in the next three months, you definitely need to take a little trip to the Murakami exhibit in Versailles.

D.I.Y. Chocolate

When you are finished sewing those costumes (and sending us pics) you should go to Chocomize and reward yourself with your own designed chocolate bar! I can't wait for J to see this. He is a candy hound and loves to play with flavors. I hope he doesn't go for the banana encrusted though, that is definitely not up my alley.

Halloween Costumes

Ok, so we've gotten a couple, and I mean 2 entries in for our halloween costume contest. Now people, we can do better than that! It seems like maybe people haven't gotten their costumes ready yet, so I'm extending the deadline. You can send in your pics to betsy@bonbonatelier.com until the end of the week..We want to see those costumes!

Pee Wee

I so wish I lived in New York, just so I could go see the new Pee Wee show. Maybe he'll take it on the road, and of course I still have hope for the new movie that he said he was working on. Hooray Pee Wee!

Felt it!

I've been doing some research on felt for the store. Because we use it for everything, and could probably use it even more if we had the perfect kind. I was happy to see that happy fabric designer Heather Bailey is selling felt and was even happier to see her pictures of it. What can I say, I love to look at the end of rolls of felt...don't you?

Anyway, I'll let you know when the felt decision has been decided. In the meantime, E has been researching yarn. There are oh so many plans being made at bon bon!

gypsy

We got a random shipment of one bolt of fabric. It would have been more fun had there been more bolts, but I'm happy to take any shipment. I do think it is a great fabric..a perfect complement to so many of our others..

Video Friday: Rock N Roll Circus

This video Friday let's drink to the Rolling Stone's and their Rock n Roll circus. If you look closely you can also spot Pete Townshend and Keith Moon getting up to no good right in front of Mick, Marianne Faithful looking gorgeous and I think John and Yoko are in there somewhere as well...

Clare Owen

I saw this artist, Clare Owen over on Designsponge and thought these images of hers would be perfect for our classroom. Or maybe my sewing room. Or both.

Adore Magazine

Adore magazine? Why yes I do actually. Do you? Have you seen it yet? I'm sure you will love it to. What's not to love about on online Australian decor mag. And look! There is a glittery little friend in the last picture that looks like she is a cousin to the herd we have in the store!

Holiday Spirit

Since we're in the holiday spirit today I wanted to show you a sneaky peek of what we have hiding away for the holidays. For the first time we are going to do a proper Christmas shop with ornaments and glitter and all of those lovely little knick knacks that make everything so festive. Like our little pink glittery deer. Isn't she lovely?

Also, I actually have started working on some of our displays and here is a super close up of one. Can you guess what it is? No fair if you've seen me working on it!

T minus 2 weeks

So we are on the countdown to our big holiday switchover (just in time for the Holiday Hop!)In the back of my mind 24/7 lately has been holiday display ideas, and soon enough that will translate into frantic building/cutting and crafting to get everything done by Nov 5th.

Anyway, since the holidays are so much on my mind I thought I would share a couple of images that are in my holiday inspiration folder, in case you are gearing up for some fun decorating yourselves.

Just how all of this (and there is quite a bit more) will translate into decor for the store will be interesting to see. We have a couple bigger projects in mind that I hope will look as good in person as they do in our heads!

New fabric!

I forgot to tell you about the new Art Gallery fabric that we got in this week. I think it's my favorite that we've gotten from them so far. We've especially been using the little purple print..it looks awesome with so many different fabrics.

Jak & Jil

What is better than a ball? A masked ball. Sure, but who has masquerade's anymore? Well apparently Vogue does. In Paris of course. Because if you are going to a masquerade where better than Paris? See the behind the scenes of getting dressed for a ball here. And then tell me what you would where. I'll have to think about my costume.

Speaking of costumes, I still need entries into our contest!! Don't forget!

Video Friday!

Check out this footage of Marlene Dietrich as ringleader at a benefit in 1955. The benefit was held on the opening night of the Ringling bros. show at Madison Square Garden and boasted a parade of stars. Jimmy Stewart, Marilyn Monroe, Sonja Henie and more all represented each month of the year in the parade. And, super fun fact, my tap dance teacher was the baton twirler in that circus! How cool is that?

LOVE this Josef Frank wallpaper. Love in a big way.

Shadow on the stairs

I love this shadow stair decoration for Halloween! I'm not normally much of a Halloween decorator,(despite my love of the holiday) but this year the bug has bit me and I'm all for it

So, I had placed a nice big order to replace all of our lovely shot cottons that were suddenly gone. Sadly, so far we've only gotten two colors in. However they are lovely colors! Apple green and Grape. Which, happen to be the theme colors for our Holiday Hop...it's fate!

Handmade Costume contest!

Did you hear? We are having an online costume contest!

In honor of one of our favorite holidays, bon bon is having an online handmade costume contest! You have until October 23rd to make the most fabulous Halloween costume ever and email us some pics. On October 25th we will have a costume parade on our blog and Ning site, and on the 27th we'll announce who won the title of Ms./Mr. Handmade Halloween 2010. We can't wait to see what you come up with!

I can't decide what to do. I don't want to give away too much, but at first I was really set on an idea, but now I"m wavering. One is kind of funny, one involves lots of sequins...and who can resist the draw of sequins??
