So, I can't think of anything sufficiently entertaining to show/tell you today. But I found someone who can! Go to Isaac Mizrahi's website and watch his video blog's and all of his other awesome stuff! It is hours of entertainment! Oh, and go to Spring 08 and look at the cookieflower white dress--I've decided that should be my wedding dress. How I'll get it, I have no idea. Enjoy!

Weekend Craft #5

So, are you a big Star Wars fan? We are -- the originals, not the new ones. I love whiny Luke, lip glass Leia, hunky Han Solo. Anyway, if you are a fan you will love this week's Weekend Craft--if not, maybe you should rent the movie this weekend, hunker down with a needle and some thread and join the cult o' the Star Wars.

Style Icon #5 Orla Kiely

Actually, I don't know what Orla Keily herself looks like. I couldn't find a picture of her on her website or the Internet. Hmm, mysterious. That however, does not mean that she has to give up being style icon #5--oh no, Orla has made it on her design skills alone, which are tremendous!

The first time I saw an Orla piece I was in school in London and one of my classmates came with this fantastic bag. It seems that the day before she happened upon the Orla Kiely sample sale (lucky beast!) Since then I have been fascinated by her use of color and pattern, not only in her bags, but her clothing as well. (and her home wares, and her stationary)

Also, having seen pictures of her stand alone stores, I am foaming at the mouth to go to one (and, quite possibly, never leave!) Her pieces are flirty and feminine and most of all fun. The cuts of her clothing are fairly classic, but when made out of her fabulous prints they turn into really interesting pieces.

Brunschwig & Fils

So I was playing around on the Brunschwig and Fils website enjoying searching through their unlimited array of fabrics, wallpapers and trims and thought--I bet all my bon bon's would enjoy this too! You can search through their fabrics in a million different ways, my favorite was by color. And the trims are to die for! Here are pictures from their very beautiful ad campaigns. I know that when I see their ads I normally will tear them out and keep them, they are so lovely!

Book Review #5 Softies!

Softies: Oh dear....this is a good one! The popularity of softies has been growing by leaps and bounds lately and it is great to have 25 very different softie artists showing off their creations. Each artist has a bio that gives their website, creative influences and "why he/she makes what he/she makes" to give some interesting background. There is a softie style and level of difficulty for everyone from tiny pink Party Cakes to George the Elephant King, so if you are a craft newbie looking for a great starting point into the world of stitch or an old hand there is something in this book to make you say "ooooooo! ahhhhh! awwwww!" For me Ms. Green Tea Bag wins the prize, seriously, have you ever seen anything so cute?

Weekend Craft Project #4: Party Garland

Emily found this project on the fabulous Purl Soho blog The Purl Bee! It looks so cute when it's finished and very easy to do! I love a festive garland!

Materials: This is enough to make at least a 40 foot garland!

Lots and lots of scraps in at least 10 different patterns. This would be a great use of fat quarters and it's also a fun and effective way to whittle away at your stash!You can get at least 6 feet of garland for every 1/4 yard (or fat quarter) of fabric!
1 spool Gutermann Invisible thread
1 set of Garland Templates which you can download here and here.
1 heavy paper bag
