2nd Friday Part 2

After we went to Andrea's show, we had to go see Emily Jungden's show at Genevieve Flynn's gallery. Of course we expected to love what Emily was showing, but Oh! I can't even describe how fabulous her jewelry was. Apparently Miss Emily has been holding out on us and making amazing enameled basket rings and bracelets that are, basically, wearable sculpture. I took pictures, but they really don't do them justice--I'll try to get better ones, so you can see it up close and personal.
Anyway, see what you can out of these pics, and I'll try to get her to put her new jewelry in the store (at least some?) so you can have a chance to really see it.
By the way, the gun that Emily is holding in that top picture? Aside from enameling the handle, she has turned it from be be gun to viewfinder. You insert tiny picture slides that she made (of fashion-y things) and put the end of the gun up to your eye, and you go through the slides. It is awesome and I thought my sister was going to run away with it.

2nd Friday Art shows!

Hello bon bons! Did you have a good weekend? We had a very art-filled weekend (including a 4-hour stint at the Nelson-Atkins Museum. Word to the wise...don't wear wedge shoes when you go to an art museum) However, we kicked off our weekend by hitting some second Friday art shows, including one by our friend Andrea Yates!

Andrea has a whole new awesome ceramics line out that has octopus, pirate ships and anchors on it. I.E. it was made for us! And, she started doing this really cool moist-slip technique which gives her pieces really fabulous texture. I took some pictures for you, but if you need more than that let us know--she promised to bring us a bunch of the new stuff after the show! I can't wait!

I love the texture on these. It was so pleasant just to hold them. The contrast between the cool, hard glaze and the soft unglazed part made it a pleasure to pick it up! She also did some bowls with this technique

I never think of myself as a blue and white girl, but really that is such a good summer combo. It is cool and beachy and works so well with ceramics!

Octopus, Anchors and Ships oh my! Andrea has all new bowls, demitasse cups and saucers. We'll let you know when they make their way into bon bon.

Opening Late...

John Galliano

The blue tights and orange shoes/skirts stopped me dead in my tracks. I love the combination.

So this blog was originally going to be about John Galliano's awesome website were he has all of these hilarious cartoons featuring Miss Galliano and Puppy. However, I went on over to Vogue.co.uk to snag some pics of his fall/winter 08 line and shazam! I am obsessed. I had kind of glanced at it before, but I like to wait until the actual season is approaching to look at the shows to see what I feel like (i know, it goes against all retail and fashion codes).

Anyway, my heart started beating a little harder and visions of Paul Poiret, Myrna Loy and the F. Scott Fitzgeralds started whirling around in my head, as I watched the show. Yum! The colors are amazing and I have a new lust for light blue and orange that knows no bounds. If I were you I would definitely go look at the whole show--and keep an eye out for all of his amazing details (i.e. purple gloves and shoes) I would rhapsodize more about it, but it's easier if you see it for yourself. Oh yeah, and after that go see what Miss Galliano and Puppy are up to!

Armstrong Interior Decorating

So, over the weekend E and I watched In Like Flint and it threw us in a bevy of retro redecorating ideas for both our houses and the store. And look what she found today! On populuxebooks.com she found this awesome Interior Decorating book which really drives home the swingin' look we are going for. I suppose we are going to have to buy the book now--after all how can you pass up all of these great ideas? If you snag the Armstrong Book first we will totally understand, but will you share the pics with us?

You're Invited!

We are happy to let you all know that our good friend, ceramics extraordinaire Andrea Yates is having her very own show! It starts this Friday and runs through August 5th, and it will be at the tomasic & rehorn law offices in Strawberry Hill. I know it seems strange for it to be at a law office, but this particular one is always hosting artist shows in cooperation with Strawberry Hill's 2nd Friday Art Walks. For those of you out-of-town you can find some of her work on our website, and hopefully some new pieces after the show!
