Raspberry velvet

Raspberry velvet chairs are the very best.

Except maybe for a super deep teal velvet.

Chanel

I like the new Chanel Pre-Fall campaign. Pre-fall is so much better than post-summer, don't you think?

Marianne Faithful

I've been listening to a lot of Rolling Stones lately, and having a weird side fascination with RS's 60's girlfriends--and isn't Marianne Faithfull just the most glamorous ever? She makes me long for flowing hair with a fringe. In other news...nice pantsuit Mick..like checks much?

Edward Steichen

Speaking of Lanvin, J & I went to a lecture at the Nelson Atkins last week by Dr. Valerie Steele (author and curator for Fashion Institute of Technology's museum) about women fashion designers, especially during Coco Chanel's heydey of the early 20th century. It was a great lecture and although I was familiar with a lot of the other designers she had mentioned (Jeanne Lanvin, Schiaparelli, Vionnet, etc.) there were quite a few that I would like to learn more about.

The Lecture was a part of the Edward Steichen exhibit, which I wasn't able to visit yet, but can't wait!

KC Modern

Have you ever been to the KC Modern website or their blog? It has a slew of info about awesome modern houses (for sale too!) and buildings around Kansas City. I love this one, it's the Nichols Residence designed in 1965. Did I ever tell you how much I would love a sunken living room? But, I could probably do without that ceiling fountain thing. See more here..

We also got some new books in..well, one in again and two brand new ones. Back by popular demand is the Built By Wendy dresses book, and a book of really cute modern baby quilts called (duh) Quilts Baby! It has some super cute ideas in it, so if you have anyone who's having a baby I would highly recommend it! And check out the I love Patchwork book..it's filled with a whole slew of projects that I want to make. Unfortunately my list is already too long.

New Patterns..

I got the tunic pattern for E, because she loooves tunics, but I"m all about the new raincoat pattern because I am in dire need of a raincoat. Especially this monsoon of a June..

Worlds of Fun!

As part of our personal Summer Camp, E and I (J + M) went to Worlds of Fun Sunday night and rode rollercoasters. (By the way, I am not a girl who rides rollercoasters. I'm the one who holds the purses and eats frozen lemonade while waiting for the others to ride.) E,J,+M were all over the rollercoasters, but I only rode three (against my better judgement) Can I tell you how I never would have thought I would be on a ride, dangling upside down with my legs in the air (as pictured above). It was fun anyway, and on a side note, Sunday night is totally the time to go to WOF--super short lines!

Next up for Summer Camp: Schlitterbahn!

Polka dot storefronts

I wish we could polka dot the front of our store...

Bon bon Summer of Craft!

The other day I did it. I sat down and made a list of all the craftiness that was floating around in my head. And it was loong. I know I'm not the only one with a super long list of crafts she is dying to do, so I've come up with a plan where we can help each other get things done! I've started a Summer of Craft ning site where I'm going to post my list of craft projects for this summer. As I work/finish them I' ll post procedures and pics. Will you do the same? That way we can see the awesome stuff that we are all working on, and keep up the encouragement?

Here, I'll start. J got a footstool that was a boring black leather and I've had the lingering thought that it needed a cover. On Saturday I rolled off the couch and got to work and Ta Da! Go over to the SOC site to see more..
