DIY champagne

After the discussion on short champagne glasses vs. flutes (hooray short!)I was glad to see the Designsponge team went with short in their DIY gold leaf glass project. It's actually a really cute project if you are looking for something to do before your big New Year's Eve party tomorrow night..

I found this gorgeous shoot over on Fashion Gone Rogue. It's from the December issue of Brides magazine and I just took to it immediately. Obviously, because it has big hair and and even bigger dresses! I especially love the Giraffe groom..I wish you saw that at more weddings.

More Fabric!

Last week we got in 4 cute new fabrics..2 kid-oriented animal prints and 2 gorgeous velveteens. I had been iffy about ordering the velveteens and waffled back and forth forever.

Then Lauren and I had a whole conversation about not ordering them as she had seen them and didn't love them. So, my decision had been made..no velveteens. But then I saw a patchwork velveteen coat at Anthropologie (aah! I can't find a picture to show you) and my lust for velveteen roared it's soft head and the now we have two bolts. And I want more and more and more.

Ms. Pac-Man

Here is the very last minute Christmas project I was working on last week for my friend's daughter. I couldn't decide for the life of me what to make her (which is funny because she is 2 and really doesn't care at all) but in a lightening strike of inspiration I decided to go the Ms. Pac-Man route. Because why not?

I made her a plush of Ms. Pac-Man and her 4 ghosts, and then because I owed her a new pillowcase (that I had promised months ago...sorry!) I extended the theme and made her initials (HH) the gameboard of Ms. Pac-Man. On the back it's the little scene where the Pac-Man's meet and fall in love.

I was so pleased with the way it turned out, I hope she like it!

Skates

Well, now what do we do? It's that awkward time post-Christmas pre-New Years. We can't just go back to work, because we want to make the most out of the rest of the year..but what are the options? Maybe you will be inspired by this gorgeous ice skating party...I know I was!

Champagne

With appetizers of course must come festive drinks, and although I admit that I'm not much of a drinker when the family breaks out the red foxes (champagne and cranberry juice) I'm always up for a glass. Or two.

E and I jumped into the world of champagne cocktails the other day and I don't think we will be jumping back out anytime soon. As a side note, after careful consideration I've come to the realization that I am not a fan of the champagne flute. The shorter glass is so much more glamorous. Does anyone else have a feeling one way or the other?

Champagne Cocktail Recipe
The Champagne Cocktail is one of the oldest known cocktails and one of the few that has retained its original name over the years.

6oz Champagne
1 sugar cube
dash bitters

Soak the sugar cube in the bitters for a few seconds. Put the cube into the bottom of a flute glass, then pour the Champagne over it. Usually garnished with a lemon twist.

Fondue!

Years and years ago my mom gave up doing a whole big Christmas eve dinner..I would too if I had to make a whole big dinner the next day. Now we have a whole variety of appetizers (although it's probably just as time consuming). I thought this year I would bring a couple myself and I was thinking about breaking out my adorable vintage fondue pot. Isn't it festive? I'm considering going with this Crab and Cheddar fondue, although I did find a variety of delicious sounding recipes. Do any of you have any great fondue recipes I should try?

Noodle

One of the holiday gifts that I made this year was a giant stuffed, well something, for my nephew. I got it done a couple of weeks ago and he has made himself comfortable in the house waiting for Christmas. In fact it might be a little lonely after he's gone. We have affectionately termed him Noodle, so named for his uber-long arms and legs...

Geffrye Museum

Has anyone been to the Geffrye museum in London? It is totally delightful. It is an entire museum devoted to middle class living rooms in England from the 1600's to present. Is anyone else totally nutty for that kind of thing, like me?

Actually, to be perfectly frank I had forgotten all about the place, and then just came upon a mention of it. Suddenly I remembered a long ago day exploring living rooms in England, and it was so cool! It may be a must-visit next time I go over. Anyway, so I wandered over to their website and saw that they are having an exhibit called Christmas Past: 400 years of seasonal traditions in English homes. Now you know that that must be a huge treasure trove of inspiration. I would love to see it.

I also noticed that they are having a wee exhibition on Heal's Christmas posters. I'm completely in love with the one they showed online, so now I guess I will have to go on a search for others.

More stockings!

Over Thanksgiving at J's house we were discussing the upcoming holidays and how it would be the first Christmas his nephew would be spending with the family at home. And then it was realized that he doesn't have a stocking, nor does his dad. And what is sadder than a Christmas morning without a stocking, may I ask?? So, we got out the super awesome vintage family stockings and I declared that I would save the day with two new ones for Soren and Ben.

The top two pics are the originals. I wanted to make sure to make stockings that were similar so they didn't stick out like a sore thumb so I stuck with the felt/trim/scene theme. I especially like the way the present stocking turned out, I used some vintage felt on that one and it really made it feel like an original. And yes, I need to make myself one..however it got pushed to the end of the holiday project list. I will definitely have it done by next year!

Holiday Ric Rac Roundup

So, yes it's been over a month since the holiday Ric Rac Roundup..and no, I haven't yet posted pictures. In fact, I just downloaded from my camera. Anyway, I am working on them, getting ready to put them up on Flickr (someday) but I thought I'd give you a little preview. These are all taken pre-show obviously, with folks still setting up and E and I having nothing better to do than play with the camera and get in each other's shots.

If anyone else has some ric rac pics, send them to me, I would love to see them!

Star Signs: Vogue UK

I find myself totally enamored of this shoot in the December issue of Vogue UK. I just can't get over shoots like this where you can see how much time, thought and detail went into each image. Even the opening image with Vogue spelled out is just gorgeous. So drool over this online and then run right out to get the magazine, because this one is a keeper!
