Olle Eksell

I am so glad that I randomly ordered this book of Olle Eksell's work for the store. I was charmed by the cover and delighted by the gorgeous drawing inside! Olle Eksell was a Swedish graphic designer, and this book highlights his work in the 1950's.

It is so happy and playful, and reminds me of the work of Mary Blair. So far I have gotten to really sit down and check out the book, but I look forward to that day (because, yes, I stole a copy and took it home!)

Bedroom makeover

So, despite almost no time to work on it, the bedroom makeover is slowly taking shape. I decided on this lovely simple duvet from the Fieldcrest collection at Target. I am normally a fan of pattern in, well anything really, but especially for a duvet cover, but lately I've just wanted clean white. It's like a fluffy hotel room, you know?

We do have some pattern in the room with Vicki Payne's Chippendale fabric though..I mean, you have to have something right?

And I managed to tone down the kelly green-ness of the adjacent room with bunny gray paint.
Lest you think I've lost my love of color, no fear...most of the walls are still a crisp apple green! I hope to have this beast finished by November 12th, so hopefully more pictures will come soon. (By the way, there is no reason for November 12th...I just thought it seemed like a good deadline. We'll see what happens)

Holiday Hop

The Holiday Hop and the Westport Holiday Open house is coming up! Are you ready for some Holiday cheer? And glitter? And tulle?? Because there will plenty of each!

I think today is a great day for a giveaway, don't you? So let's do a fun one. Comment below and leave a link for an image that totally inspires you. It can be a room, project, color, person, whatever...I'm dying to see what you come up with. At the end of the day we'll do a random draw and whoever we pick will win the Liberty Book of Home Sewing!

Good Luck!

Bon bon in Spaces

We are so excited to be included on an article about vintage fabric in this month's Kansas City Spaces! Patricia Shackelford, author of the amazing blog Mrs. Blandings, wrote it and gave bon bon and our Liberty fabric a shout out.

Run out and get it, it's a great article on gorgeous fabric!

New Books!

New books!

Some classic and pretty projects from Sweetwater's Simple Home
Some really cute, very Japanese styled dresses from I am Cute Dresses
And really great children's projects in Growing Up Sew Liberated, including some adorable baby knit outfits and some toddler unisex pieces.

Phantom Tollbooth Kickstarter

I tend to check out Kickstarter pretty often, just to see what people are working on. But I've never been so excited and ready to pledge as I am now. This year is the 50th anniversary of the book, The Phantom Tollbooth and the kickstarter project is to raise money for a documentary on this fabulous book. Of course there are wonderful prizes for those who donate, but I would do it anyway, because this book is one of my favorites. Check out the video below: And donate today!

Heather Ross Holiday Card

I just saw that Heather Ross is auctioning off personalized Christmas cards for a donation to her friend's school. How amazing would it be to have a family portrait done by the great Heather Ross? You can check out the auction here, and the funny backstory of the donation here.

By the way, today is the last day to bid!

Box O' Fabric

I just opened a big box full of gorgeous fabric.
Anna Maria Horner's LouLouThai Needleworks
Some amazing fabric from Joel Dewberry. Can I say how much I am totally in love with this floral? It's amazing!
And this Marquis print would be great on a chair.
Lovely little prints from Jenean Morrison...

And a new bolt of everyone's favorite, Martha Negley's Toss!

Sorry folks, we aren't quite done with vacation pictures yet. Here are some from our 24 hours in Paris. We had a sweet little hotel right up the street from the Moulin Rouge. Wood ceiling beams, toile, and tiny balconies--everything a hotel in Paris should have! We used our day wisely, eating crepes, visiting the Sacre Couer, walking down the Rue De La Paix, drinking hot chocolate in the Tuileries and saying Bonjour! to the Louvre.

Maybe next time we'll try to stay a little least two days!

Today Google is celebrating Mary Blair's 100th birthday! Take a minute and go over to check out the work of my favorite artist!

Westport Trick or Treating!

On Saturday the 29th, bring the kiddies (or just yourself) down to Westport for some trick or treating. We will be in full costume (which you should be too!) and we will have loads of candy for you. Please come trick or treat, because I can't stop eating the candy that is meant for you. My teeth would appreciate it. Oh, and the pic below?  That is my finished Red Queen costume (made with Anna Maria Horner velveteen), with e as the Ace of Spades. I finished it in the nick of time for the Haunted Mansion costume ball last Saturday. Come in the store and check it out!

Kaffe Fassett at the Nelson

It's been so busy around here lately that I forgot all about Kaffe Fassett! Did you go see him a couple of weeks ago at the Nelson? It was a great presentation, and he was hilarious. The best part of the night was definitely the audience, who hung on his every word! With every picture that flashed up on the screen it was a chorus of oooohs and aaahs. And Kaffe ate it up!

Here are a couple of pictures of the evening. The quilts on display were, I believe, provided by Harper's fabrics.
The sweaters are from his collection for Peruvian Connection, which is based here in Kansas City.

And then he brought some quilts of his own for show and tell. Hiding on the left behind the quilt is Kaffe's talented partner Brandon Mably.

We didn't any books signed..the only one I had close to me to grab had already been signed, so I thought 2 signatures might be overkill. Maybe next time...Hey! Did you notice that we have a whole slew of Kaffe fabric in the store right now? I just thought I would throw that out there...

New Kokka

Here are the new Kokka fabrics we received last week.

Fabulous guitars by Heather Ross (which I think will be a perfect apron for J!)
This gorgeous fabric is nautical with French sayings, and it is soooo soft. Kokka does such gorgeous gauze fabric and this is another.
And three for the kitchen! Happy singing birds, 1950's purple and green theme and Melody Miller's Ephemera. We had it before, but it sold out before I could get some for myself! It was definitely a reorder.
