Get out the tree!

The day after Thanksgiving is Christmas decorating day at our house. We will do this at my mom's house, but J and I will have to wait until next week when we get home to do our own. A few years ago I invested in a (much longed for) vintage aluminum Christmas tree, with the rotating Light wheel. It is awesome! I can't wait to get it out and put it's shininess together again! I do however have to get a piney wreath for the house--I have to have some Christmas tree smell don't I?

Here are some vintage trees/ decor that I found on Ebay..

Have fun today!

Thrifty Thursday 3!

Hi bon bons! This week's Thrifty Thursday is 25% off all Irregular Choice shoes! So make your feet happy and buy them their own little gift of fabulous shoes!

Also, I know tomorrow is Black Friday, which for most means getting up at an ungodly hour and standing in line at a big box store for the deal of the century. May I recommend something? Instead of getting up at dawn and standing in line in the cold, sleep in, have some breakfast, bundle up and go hit your friendly neighborhood independent stores! We have great deals, -and more importantly--one of a kind gifts for everyone you love! If you don't want to leave the house at all, go online (*cough* http://www.bonbonatelier.com/ *cough*) you can find awesome independent stuff there too! (for instance, we have a whole Holiday Gift Guide up just waiting to help you!)

Just a thought...

Happy Thanksgiving!

I just read on MSN that everything that is good and delicious about Thanksgiving is bad for you. So, I say I'm thankful that I don't care and am going to have an extra spoonful of mashed potatoes. Happy Thanksgiving!

In-laws, here I come!

So, after 10 years of togetherness I will finally be going to an in-law holiday this week. Surprisingly, I don't really ever see his family, so it could be considered a larger deal than it is (see, we are from the same town and when we go home you can hardly tear me away from the side of my parents, so I don't normally go to his fam's things) Anyway, I always like to figure out what I am wearing for occasions in advance and I think this is what I going to go for...

What? You think it might be a little much for a family Thanksgiving dinner, well, alright I guess. Sigh. (ha, just kidding--I don't really dig the ripped pant look. It makes me thing brr!)

So, since that isn't really a go, I don't know what I'll wear. It will probably end up looking closer to this...
Actually, I'm not kidding about this, I do have a tendency to dress like I'm 6. I normally look a lot happier though!

Frothy and full

Look at the skirt on the bottom of that dress. It is frothful. Can you imagine sitting down surrounded by such fluff? I think it would be like wearing cotton candy. I think it is a Monique Lhullier, however I forget where I even found the picture, so don't quote me on that (if you know, or have any other pics of it, please share!) Now in the wedding dress search, I have been very lucky. Went to a vintage show, found it, tried it one, and it fit perfectly. Done! However I am going to make a fluffy underskirt for it. Perhaps I will have my own skirt of cotton candy to wear....

Just a thought....

On the off chance that Santa is reading this blog, I bet this book would be really good.

Or I bet I could make something awesome out of these fabrics...

Or maybe we could just go...
Let's eat a bunch of mincemeat pies at Liberty!

Knits

The knits have arrived! We have ruffly super-soft neckwarmers in six lovely colors and elbow-length stripy armwarmers in three different colors. Add in the hats that E made (which are awesome and will get their own pics and post once I get a chance) and you will be warm from top to toe!. Although these aren't on the website yet, they will be this week so keep an eye out!
Neckwarmers (no button) creme, lavender, red, black, purple, and olive green. These are gorgeous and soft and I love them..$58-
Anything stripy and elbow-length gets an A+ in my book. Especially when they are as cozy as these armwarmers. We have them in turq/green (as shown), purple/teal, and orange/turq. $42

Holiday Dandy's

The Christmas spirit has just hit me. I'm spending the morning listening to the White Christmas soundtrack (by the way, White Christmas is the best movie ever, with the most amazing costumes, so if you haven't seen it, by all means this is the time!) I've been buying presents now for a while-a little at a time- but until today haven't had the holiday fever.

If I hadn't already bought J's present I would want to get him something from the Fine and Dandy shop online. "FineAndDandyShop.com caters to the guy who enjoys dressing up. He doesn't believe in Casual Friday, nor thinks of getting dressed each day as a chore. He has an appreciation for the well dressed gentlemen of yesteryear and is inspired by their unabashed use of accessories. This shop is for that modern man looking for the finishing details to truly be fine and dandy"

It's awesome, they have ties, scarves, wallets and hats all of which I can envision Fred Astaire casually sporting. If anyone has a boy that could use a little sprucing up, I recommend you go fineanddandy this holiday!

Anyhoo, for those who don't know, here is the drill: Bring at least 3 items of clothing or home stuff that you are ready to get rid of and see if you can swap it for something you love! Remember, it's a crapshoot--you might find a gem or nothing at all. But the fun is in the hunting!

Join us: 11.20.08 The swap starts at 7, but get here early to get your number and eat snacks and have fun!

Thrifty Thursdays

Hiya bon bons!

We want to announce our new Thrifty Thursdays promotion! What is that you ask? Well, it's as simple as this; on Thursdays we will announce a hefty discount on a particular item, and when the next Thursday comes along that discount will end and another will begin! How bitchin' is that? This will run through the end of December, so if you happen to be in a gift-buying mood, it will be perfect for you!

So, without further ado, this week's Thrifty Thursday is...20% off Loop Wallets! Everyone's favorite gift to give and receive just got a little easier to buy, so now you can do the ever popular, "one for them, and one for me!"

Check the website, or stop in on Thursdays where we will announce each week's new discount!

love,
E & B

Fall Cure..

So, once again, I am the last to know. I just found out via No Accounting for Taste about Apartment Therapy's Fall Cure, which is an 8 week program that guides you in cleaning, organizing and decorating your house. Apparently there is a whole book you can buy and everything.

This info comes at a convenient hour when I just finished researching countertop and sink pricing online. J and I rent our little house, so except for some painting over a few rooms when we moved in, we haven't done any sprucing up of the house itself. Suddenly, I am all nesty and fired up about making the house look nice--especially the bathroom and kitchen. Ick. I'm not sure if it is because I just realized that we probably will be there for a while, or because with the wedding coming up next year there is a strong possibility that people will come visit the house or what. Nevertheless, something must be done and I'm going to look into this Fall Cure thing. It sounds just like what I need. Has anyone attempted this? Let me know how it went...
I'm sure when I'm done my house will look like the pic above..Hah! Sadly not, but thanks for the pretty picture Citysage!

Poirot Inspiration

So on Sunday night I got a huge jolt of inspiration while watching a Hercule Poirot DVD with my family (we have a big soft spot for English mysteries). For those who may not be up on there mysteries, Hercule Poirot is a character from an Agatha Christie series about a Belgian detective. My favorite the series starring David Suchet as Poirot (top left pic), although there are a variety of other movies and TV series with other actors.
So, why the inspiration? Well, the Poirot stories are set in the 30's (ish) and like all English period pieces they are impeccably costumed. I coveted the crepe dresses, marveled after the tailoring in the tweed jackets and my sister positively swooned over the leading ladies perfect pleated pants. What were those pants made of that gave them such an amazing drape? I guess we'll never know. Anyway, Monday morning when I got ready for work I kept the images from the night before in mind and made myself a pseudo 1930's outfit!
Here it is (please excuse the pink nose--I had just come in from outside where it was freezing and I turn pink very easily).
So, what's 30's about it? Well, if nothing else, the jacket is from that era. It is part of a 3 piece vintage set I recently acquired. The skirt, which is really dark purple, has  a nice 30's inspired bias cut to it. The pink shirt is actually the top of a 50's pajama set and the bow is vintage velvet ribbon. The shoes I think have a nice WWII era feel to them--I especially like the bronze detailing.

So why this long, boring blog with a picture of myself in it? Well, I enjoy putting together a lot of "inspired by" outfits-- I don't really have much else to do. And, I figure, why not share? Feel free to skip over any future vanity posts!

Winter Wonderland Window

So after much work (mostly by e) we have our new windows installed! Although, picture them now outlined in twinkle lights--it's our own little Paris in KC! (Eiffel Tower coming soon...) We were totally inspired by the sketchy quality of animation like The Aristocats and 101 Dalmations. Yes, we are dorks, but look how well it turned out! The snowflake lights in the window I love, they give off such a soft, soothing light.

Come by and see it in person!
This is the front window. Sorry it is so dark, but taking the picture during the day gives off the most horrific glare. Yes each little house is different. E is super tired of designing Parisian houses!
The side window here has the houses along the bottom which frames the snowflake lights.

Playing Catch up & dress up

Hi all! I'm playing a little bit of catch up with this post, as it is pictures of Emily and I at Halloween! (yes, it has taken me this long to unload my camera) Anyway, E dressed up as a sailor in a lovely wool sailor outfit. The downside? It turned out to be at least 70 outside that day--which isn't nice when you are wearing all wool. I dressed up as Minnie Mouse, since it gave me an excuse to sport my favorite polka dot Anthro dress (which, by the by, I got on sale this summer after a long wistful wait!).

I wanted to tell you too that I have all sorts of good posts waiting in line, so it won't be random puppies and weirdness! Stay tuned!
Sailor pants rock!
Love the ears, but after a while they squashed my brain..

Happy weekend

Here is some sheer cuteness for your weekend....just because I can't stop looking at it.

Don't Forget...

Hi bon bons!

I just wanted to remind you that our Holiday Open House is this weekend. (We have gotten some great new items in that I know you will love!) Also, just to add to the excitement, it's not just our open house, but also all of Westport's! Pryde's, Trapp, Urban Mining, Broadway Antiques and Neat Ideas Ltd. are all hosting holiday festivities of their own. And just to make it easy on you we are even having a trolley to take you from store to store!

Oh, the excitement of the holidays!  The presents, the festivites, the food! Sadly, not everyone is so lucky in the food department - so in order to help people out, we want to offer a 15% discount to anyone who brings in 3 cans of food to donate to Harvesters.

So, put on your holiday spirit and come party with us this weekend!

See you soon,
Betsy & Emily

Shop At..

So there is a lovely store in London called Shop at Maison Bertaux, and though I've never visited for some reason I am fascinated by it. On their website, they have a few pictures of the owner (whose name is Pippa--what could be cuter?) modeling some of their garments. They sell A.P.C., Eley Kishimoto and Sonya Rykiel and, although you can't purchase anything on their website, I find myself constantly checking in because the shop seems so -- I don't know-- perfect in some way. Is it because it is located in the basement of a patisserie? I do love baked goods. Hmmm. Well, go look at the website and see if it appeals to you as much as it does to me...

Projects

I know that between the Ghostbuster pictures and Obama propaganda it's been a weird couple of blogging weeks here at bon bon. Why? well, we are getting ready for our Holiday Open House (this weekend, people! I expect to see you all here!) and there are sooo many projects to be done! Very fun, but time consuming. Anyway, I'm putting a sneak peak of our new shoe department and bench-made-out-of-a-headboard that was just finished yesterday! I"m pretty please with the way it turned out, we have another headboard waiting in the wings to be to be made into a bench after this weekend...

Excuse me please, I have to go hot glue things now.

Mcqueen at Target!

Awesome!!

As Isaac Mizrahi’s final collection for Target cycles through stores, the retailer is unveiling plans for a new fashion initiative.Target in March will launch Designer Collaborations, which is aimed to be an ongoing program that will bring a series of established designers to the masses at low prices. Designer Initiative is a separate program from Target’s Go International, which focuses on young or emerging designers and, in the past, has featured names such as Proenza Schouler, Luella Bartley, Behnaz Sarafpour, Rogan and Richard Chai. Industry sources have estimated that Go International does more than $100 million in annual sales. The launch collaboration will be with Alexander McQueen, who will create a version of his McQ collection, called McQ Alexander McQueen for Target. Read more here..

It's so true.
