Ric Rac Roundup on Fox Four news!

I was on TV!

Diamond Jubilee

Did you know that the Queen of England has been on the throne for 60 years? This weekend is her Diamond Jubilee celebration and although we are sad not to be in England to help celebrate, Liberty of London & Cath Kidston has brought out some fab product that we can sport to celebrate on this side of the pond.

From Cath Kidston...

Ric Rac & Fox 4

With every day that passes bringing Ric Rac closer (Sunday!!) my to do list gets longer. How does that seem to work? Oh well, it will get done in the end. Keep an eye out for me tomorrow morning on the Fox 4 morning show, I'll be showing off some of our Ric Rac vendor's goods! I'm excited! but nervous and hope I don't suddenly start spewing curse words for no reason.

City Map Quilts

How amazing are these city map quilts by Haptic Lab? You know I'm drooling over the London one, don't you? And of course, e needs Paris. They do custom as well, it would be fun to get one made of the small town where we grew up. I love the simplicity of the ivory color, it really makes the detailed quilting that much more striking. Although the navy and white great lakes quilt looks fantastic as well...

Quilt Market Recap: Variety pack!

So, here is a variety of images from Quilt Market. I actually meant to take a ton more pictures and give you in-depth coverage, but it turned out that the whole buying for business thing really took over.

Denyse Schmidt is coming out with a great line, Chickapee, this fall (august? I can't remember). I didn't manage to get a big shot of her booth, but look who we found on the design wall, The Monkees! Well, if we weren't sold on the fabric before, we are now! Doesn't Davy look handsome?
This is a shot from the Westminster booth. The large rose is a new challis fabric that they are introducing and it's going to be great for garment. I think it might be shipping now, so we should get it soon.
And what would market be without a shot of Amy Butler's booth? The booth is pretty, the new fabric lovely, and Amy herself very very nice. But let's be honest; one of the main draws was her husband David (designer of Parson Gray fabric). He was voted hottest man at the show by everyone I know.
And Tula Pink! She had a fabulous booth. I didn't get a full shot because every time I went by it was full of people. She had some great quilts up, one for nightshade (which will be here soon) and her fall line as well. Don't forget you will be able to meet miss Tula herself at bon bon on November 3rd!

Here is our friend Shea making her debut at market. You know Empty Bobbin patterns, we carry them at the store, and we are so happy the world has gotten to see them. Hooray Empty Bobbin!
Finally we come to our last photo. It's kind of a funny story, E and I stopped by the Zen Chic booth on Saturday to look at their really gorgeous quilts. The man in the booth told us to leave a business card to be entered in a raffle. Well, Ok! On Monday morning two folks wandered into the store and it turns out that not only did we win the raffle, but the Zen Chic folks were staying down the street and realized they could walk the prize to us! Fate!

It seems like we should forward the favor, so if you would like to win this pack o' Moda fabric and the pattern leave a comment. We will select at random and maybe you will be the proud owner of this lovely gift!

Ric Rac Roundup: Love is Rising

hi nice to meet you. I'm Rachel. A busy stay at home mom of two. i love all things vintage. somehow i wish i could go back and live in the 20's or 30's for a bit. Agatha Christie is my favorite author. Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is also close to my heart. I love a good homemade sweet tea or lemonade on a hot summer day like today. Hope you enjoy LOVE IS RISING and can't wait to meet you at RicRac.

Thanks for stopping by!

Quilt Market recap: Melody Miller

My other favorite booth at market was Melody Miller's. I mean, I love her fabric (who doesn't?) but when I rounded the corner and saw this, I was ready to move in. It was so fantastic, and gave me so many ideas for her fabric.

Also, she was so incredibly nice. She even let us sneak away with a couple of her booth samples (which I'm keeping hidden from you for the time being..don't worry it will be worth it) I think the biggest thing I took away from this booth was an unquenchable desire to reupholster some chairs in her fabric. I'm thinking about her upcoming 45" record fabric, but it's still up in the air..

Thank you Melody Miller! We loved meeting you!

Quilt Market! Liberty of London booth

So, quilt market was awesome. It was a whirlwind really and pretty overwhelming at times, but overall awesome. Helpful too..I already have my holiday window planned! Considering we had to go all the way to Paris last year for inspiration, I think this was pretty successful. Not to mention more cost effective.

Anyhow, I have many pictures to show you, but let's just face facts, the most important booth to me was the Liberty of London art fabrics booth. Like a moth to the flame I made my way there, oh 6 times. I think they thought I was stalking them, which I guess I was.

So Liberty has come out with some glorious quilting cotton that has a lower price (!) than their Tana Lawn. The fabric is really nice and soft and the prints are gorgeous. Of course. I bought a fair few bolts which will be arriving in August.

Here is a picture of their lovely booth. I liked the floral quilts they had on display because you could really see the prints. On the far wall they had the awesome circle quilt with one of each new print in it. The directors chairs were all covered in their fabric as well. I thought about sneaking off with a few of them, but decided to wait and just make my own.

The best part was the swag! A corduroy floral bag with a box of all the swatches (I almost passed out with excitement when she gave me those) and pencils. I tried to subtly take one of every color but didn't succeed. Although I think between e and I we probably hit all the pencil options.

I'm excited about this new quilting cotton, but you Tana Lawn lovers out there, don't fret. I bought a lot of that too!

Ric Rac Roundup: 5 Berry Oak

Speaking of Jess, here are some pictures of her delicious baked goods that will be at the Ric Rac Roundup!

Eat this! I bake with high-quality and organic ingredients. I put lots of careful work into each and every tasty bite in my humble kitchen. I want to bring joy and scrumptious deliciousness to all those around me. Stop on by a grab a delightful something for you & your someone!

Paper, framed

Jess & Joe have become very good bon bon friends. They are super cool people and we love it when they come in. We've even talked Jess, who is an extraordinary baker, to be in the Ric Rac Roundup! Anyway, they sent me these pics of the paper they bought from us and framed. Doesn't it look so cute?

Ric Rac Roundup: Oddly Correct coffee

Oddly Correct: We are a trio of monkeys on Main St., roasting, pouring, pulling, bagging & tasting coffee. We long to freak out your coffee experience in such a way that one transcends the way one thinks about how coffee can taste. Black coffees via pour over brew method, espressos & americanos, whole-bean coffees, select scones, and fine chocolate bars are what we offer on a daily basis. Come and see & taste & be. Midtown located, quality-oriented, coffee impassioned, art inclined, espresso wired.

Monday Morning

I think I might actually have a quilt market hangover. Once I wake up, get the crick out of my neck and the photos organized I'll give you a run down. What a great weekend we had!

Ric Rac Roundup: Tag Team Tompkins

We are so excited to welcome Tag Team Tompkins to the Ric Rac Roundup family! You are going to love their work...

Take two book lovers, season them with graphic design careers and a strong desire to travel.  Stir up these ingredients and you have Tag Team Tompkins, a mother/daughter team creating art that honors literary wit and wisdom.

We collaborate on mixed media projects such as our hand lettered  and cut paper original work.  We then translate our favorite pieces into letterpress art prints - printed by Bob Atkins, owner of Skylab Letterpress.

Our frequent travels to Japan let us find new tools and materials, and lend us surprising perspectives on our art.  Those long plane trips ensure plenty of time to read and imagine new work.

We're very happy to be first-time participants at Ric Rac Roundup - seeing old friends and making new ones.
