Don't Forget--Swap-O-Rama Thurs Night~

Join us the 3rd Thursday of the every month for our bon bon Swap-o-Rama! Here's how it works: you bring different things that you don't want anymore (clothing, home goods, books, accessories, etc.). All items should be clean, undamaged and in working order. You can then browse the stuff everyone else brings, and swap it out for something you love! It's fantastic, you get to recycle your old stuff and refresh your world with "new to you" items! Starting at 6 p.m. you can bring your stuff and get a number, the swap will start at 7 p.m. Of course, there will be yummy refreshments! Call us at 816.756.0855 if you have any questions. Oh, to be in England

Today I'm in the mood to walk through the cool marble halls and snoop through the collections of a museum. Not just any museum though, but the Victoria and Albert museum in London. I've been there before a few times, but did not even scratch the surface of their collections. Instead of up and flying to London however, I decided to comb through their website, something I haven't really ever done. Now I know how I've been missing out! There is so much great info on there on all their collections and current, past and future exhibitions! I first checked out the Golden Age of Couture exhibit website (sadly, this closed in January) and found not only pictures of the exhibition but interactive stuff too, like Design a Shoe or you could send in an "Elegant Dress" video of your favorite dress. So then I looked at the current exhibitions, China Design Now and Collaborators: UK Design for Performance -- awesome. My favorite (or course!) part of the site is in the Fashion and Jewelry collection where you can see the V&A's historical dress collection in 3-D. And there are a million other collections and exhibitions and I probably won't get through them for years and years, but I am definitely up for trying. (sorry if this sounds like a V&A infomercial--I just think it's really cool)

Lilymoon and new Library

We are happy to welcome Lilymoon, a wonderful artist, to our bon bon family. We found her some months ago but wanted to wait until the time was right to bring her to bon bon. To us, Lilymoon’s drawings are little bits of Spring, so we waited until the season was almost upon us, to get us in the mood. When asked about herself and her work, Lilymoon said, “I am 33 years old, I am a full time illustrator living on the island of Cyprus. I have been drawing all my life, mostly images inspired by imaginary stories that I write. At the moment I have a weakness for gardens, birds and the color green! My truest pursuit was (and is) discovering my own voice!” Go to the website to see the rest of Lilymoon's prints. Also, on Wednesday we got in a jillion new beautiful books. Come to the store, have a seat and check them out--it will totally be worth it!

Crafter's Unite!

Don't forget, tomorrow night is sewing circle at bon bon from 6-8ish. You know, in case you feel like crafting a harlequin outfit or a giant owl. Or maybe something a bit smaller, whatever you feel like.

So last night I was lying in bed, unable to sleep, when I was hit with a sudden shoe desire. I wanted new shoes, I lusted after fire-engine red shoes, and kelly green and sunshine yellow, I wanted a veritable Roy G Biv of shoes. Then I imagined how some day, when I'm all grown up and buy a house, I'll have a closet with shelves full of well-ordered shoe boxes, with pictures of each pair on the front so I can find them easily. Just thinking about it makes me so much calmer, it's like mental yoga. Anyway, although the closet will have to wait I did find some shiny, bright shoes that could start filling my spectrum. In fact, i just realized we have to pick out Spring shoes for the store this week, maybe doing that will satiate my appetite. In the meantime I thought these were yummy.

Film Fest

If you are in the Kansas City area, you have to check out the JANUS film festival being shown at the Tivoli in the next 2 months. They are showing a variety of classic movies from Jean-Luc Godard, Ingmar Bergman, Marcel Camus and others. They run on Tuesday nights through April and are only $3.00 to get in! Tonight's movie was Pierrot Le Fou and it was very inspiring. Anyway, if you are around and have the time, take advantage of these great films at such a good price! Bells

I've been looking for wedding dresses for a friend of ours who is having trouble finding one, and of course I hit up the Martha Stewart weddings site, where I found these delightful pictures. It really is hard to find fault with Martha's styling and ideas-she just knows how it should be done. (or, at least, whoever their stylist is knows how it should be done) Anyway, I just wanted to share these pics, as I find them very inspiring.

By the way, our friend wants a wedding dress that so wedding-y, if you know what I mean. I've looked at Anthropologie, and J Crew, but if anyone has any other good ideas, let me know!
