So, today has been a girl group day. I love 60's girl groups--they are so dramatic -- with a surprising number of songs that have someone dying in them. My new favorite is a Lori Burton song called "Nightmare" where she is peer pressured into getting into a fight with her ex's new girl and ends up killing her. Yowza! At the end she is carted away by the police. You just don't get that kind of drama in pop music today..
So, it's not only the music of a girl group that I find enjoyable--it's also their coordinated outfits. Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present The Supremes, The Chiffons, The Marvelettes, and (my personal favorite) The Shangri-La's. Bows, boots and sequins--what else can you ask for?

Alice costumes
So, if you are like me, you have probably been watching the new Alice In Wonderland Trailer at least once a day since it was put out last week. However, I came across this pics a couple of weeks ago and thought I posted them, but apparently not. Let's take a moment to look at the awesomeness of the costumes---The blue coat? The crazy skirt that looks like it has been made out of giant ric rac? The striped sheer handwarmers? Well done, Colleen Atwood..well done.

Big Chill
Why on earth would anyone buy a boring old stainless steel fridge when you could get a shiny candy colored one like these? Not to mention the beautiful dishwasher and ovens also available from The Big Chill... I can't decide which one I would get (if I could,, Oh, when will I come into my fortune?) but I think I'm leaning to the blue one..
Retro Renovation
Hey, sorry for the late post--I'm still recovering from this weekend! Thanks to everyone who came to the Ric Rac Roundup--it was lots of fun. We'll have pics soon, I promise! In the meantime, I suggest spending the rest of your morning reading this blog (Like i am!) It is chock full of good things. By the way, I don't suppose anyone in the KC area knows of a 1950's working refrigerator being sold anywhere? I want one!

No. 5 commercial
Since I teased you with images of the Chanel movie, I thought I should at least put up the link so you can see the Chanel no. 5 ad with Audrey Tautou. You'll be buying a ticket to Istanbul ASAP.
Coco avant Chanel
I could use a little glamour today--so here are some shots from Coco avant Chanel with Audrey Tautou. Don't you wish you were sitting in a cool, dark theater watching it? Well you will have to wait for September...

summer fun
So, It has been a busy summer--a lot of events, a lot of planning for events, etc. It seems to me that I haven't done anything very "summery" this whole summer! So, I'm setting 3 goals for myself from now until the end of summer...go to the zoo ( I love giraffe's with looong lashes), Go to Schlitterbahn (I have a soft spot for waterparks) and take E on her long put off birthday trip to the carousel museum in Leavenworth (sorry it's taken so long!).
So, if you read this blog regularly could you remind me to do these things? (since I have a tendency to get wrapped up in other things?) Thanks!

Poptopia
So, the other day E was wandering around Westport (which doesn't happen very often as we don't get out much) and she was so excited to see a new store over on Pennsylvania (in the horseshoe parking lot by Californos) It is called Poptopia and is full of Japanese toy fun!! It's got Shawnimals, Giant Robot and a million other different awesome brands. And it has a great website, in case you can't get to KC....but if you are, go check it out!

Matte Stephens
Approximately a million years ago I emailed Matte Stephens about getting his work for bon bon, and he graciously said yes. But then (shame) I dropped the ball and never got around to ordering (deep shame). But, now I have to. I just can't live in a world without these images! I want to be surrounded by them, and the little felt statues. Soon.....

Selvedge shop
So, you all have seen Selvedge magazine, haven't you? It is full of delicious textile eye candy, and guess what? Now they have a store in London! I have to admit it makes me green with envy in a lot of ways--look at that storefront? Isn't it the most perfect storefront ever? And, I'm a wee bit jealous of those who can wander on over and look at their gorgeous goods. Lucky Ducks!
Textile
Look at the amazing textile work of Marit Fujiwara. I saw this over on StyleBubble and it stopped me in my tracks. I would love to see it in person..

Dior
This will be a shocker for all of you who read this blog regularly, but of course Galliano for Dior was my favorite show of the Fall 09 Couture. I think it is nice that for this show he chose to show it in the Dior Salon instead of some circus-y extravaganza. Not that I've ever disliked a circus, but whenever I see pics or videos of Chanel or Dior shows from years ago, I think there is something much more glamorous about sitting in the salon with a quite parade of models in front of you. You can really focus on the clothes that way....
couture shows
So, as you know I saw Valentino on Sunday. Of course it was massively inspiring, but a wee bit depressing at the same time as it spoke about how the fashion business was changing and it's all about selling fragrances and accessories to keep the businesses afloat. Ugh. I realize that (especially now) there are a limited number of people who can afford to buy couture.
But if you could, wouldn't you? I mean, wouldn't you jump out of bed in the morning to put on your Dior 2 piece orange number? I would, and considering even if I could afford couture I would still have to have the store to keep me from going crazy, I would wear it to work. I wouldn't keep it for just special occasions, I think the best part of being able to afford couture would be to wear it every day like it's no biggie. I better go buy a Powerball ticket..
